The Latest Thread – Creative Gifts for Kids

We’ve been working on lots of gifts for the kids in our lives, both family and friends. It has been such a treat to make and share the creative endeavors that make us smile! We’ve made pillow loungers, and bling for the girls, too! Check out the Latest Thread for the gifts that we hope will inspire your creativity!

Pillow Lounge

Okay, I was given the challenge to buy or create some seating for the grandbabies to use in their living room. I ran across several seating options, but the pillow lounge was my absolute favorite. I initially saw the on Wayfair and then again on Amazon. The covers were mostly for girls and had a zipper(s) to enclose the pillows. Then Lisa sent me a tutorial she found on Pinterest with a video tutorial. Well if you know me, you know that I create my patterns and tutorials, which means I don’t follow directions very well! I normally have a plan and design in my head, before I get started. My default is to make it my way. I made a few minor changes to the tutorial shared with me based on the look I wanted to achieve. I will share the tutorial on Monday, September 2nd. ( I’m working on it now, so I promise to show you the differences then.)

I didn’t stick with the three pillows or the 21/2 yards of fabric, because I want the kids to use the lounge as they grow. I also placed velcro instead of a zipper in a slightly different location so that I would have fitted and smoother look. You can recreate this look for $25-$30 per lounge. And there’s enough leftover fabric to make a throw blanket.

JoAnn’s Fabric store was celebrating their 75th Anniversary and offered lots of deals, so I decided to purchase some fleece fabric for $5 a yard to make two pillow lounges for the grandchildren before they come to visit. It’s been a while since I bought fabric there, but I was excited about the sale! Of course, the girl’s textiles were easy to find and It took me longer to find a design that wasn’t a sports or construction theme for my grandson. I became frustrated and disappointed the boy’s selection, but I kept searching the isles until I came across this camping theme. (Note to self: I’ve gotta work on creating boys themed prints.)

It’s Back to School Time!

I know some of you are very excited that it’s that time again! The need to keep the children entertained every day is over.

Lisa is focusing on the perfect handmade bubblegum beaded jewelry with a little bling and sparkle for the girls!

Here’s one adorable little girl who couldn’t wait to show off her “sparkly and shinny star bracelet” and her an adorable hair bow.

Her mom said that she showed her daughter the bracelets and bows and sat them on the table in the living room. When mom turned her back, her daughter had taken the accessories to her room and placed them neatly on her dresser in her room as she and decided what she wanted to wear to school that night.

She’s so adorable and a happy recipient of her new shiny things! We love to see the smiles!

The hair bow is made with faux leather and has a non-flake glitter. The sparkle on the mini mouse ears makes it pop! Our little superstar loves her accessories!
