The Latest Thread! ~Quilt Making ~Headbands & A Special Gift

Welcome to the latest thread! We’ve been creating quilt designs, headbands to support this months Spina Bifida Campaign, and a special handbag gift.

First let’s hear from Lisa and her quilting adventures and then we will take a look at our other adventures to prepare for the holiday season!

Hello Everyone, We thought I should share a little bit about my quilts. I don’t follow a pattern and all of my quilts are unique and usually designed with that special person in mind. The latest quilt is a fairy quilt for my great-niece. I love making my family quilts! My only wish is that I could make everyone a quilt, but that’s not going to happen anytime soon, considering I have over 50 nieces and nephews, lol.

The initial phase is choosing fabrics but it’s the hardest part for me. I was at a loss with so many different ideas and fabrics. So I asked for the advice of my husband and Sheila. (Note to self, don’t ask him again, lol…..) He took over with what fabric looked the best. I then sketched out how I wanted the quilt to look and the different size pieces of which fabrics.

Next, it’s cutting time!

I wanted 2.5” and 4.5” strips to go with the 9.5’ fairy blocks. I used my AccQuilt that my son and daughter-in-law bought me, best Gift Ever! Then I laid it all out and started sewing my pieces together. (Note: You have to press the fabric first to get accurate cuts)

Let the Pinning Begin!

Now it’s time to sandwich together my quilt with the batting and start basting (safety pinning) it together.

Almost done, now I need to start quilting it (stitch in the ditch) and then bind it and voila it’s done. I’ll share pictures once it’s finished.

Satin Headbands

We’ve been working with Team Twila for the Bowties and Bracelets – Spina Bifida AWAREness Month Campaign! I’ve pinned the latest post at the top of the blog home page for more info.

One of my dear friends said that she loved the textile design for the bowties, but she would rather purchase a headband instead of a bowtie. I thought that having a satin headband option was a great idea and it wouldn’t damage your hair as well!

Luckily my scarf mannequin apparently has the same size head that I have to help me out. 🙂

The headband top is wider and adjustable with an elastic band in the back. This would allow you to gather the top to have a thinner look or stretch it wider for a different style. A little tweak to the pattern and final size adjustments are in the works. It will be available next week!

A Special Gift

Lisa delivered a special gift to this lovely lady. The first prototype tote bag and a scarf as a Thank you gift for all of the beautiful fabric she gave us from her father’s upholstry shop after his passing. Ms. Santina warmed our hearts with her beautiful smile in this photo~ she is delighted that we can make use of the fabric and she will always remember her father when she sees this bag.

Stay tuned there’s more to come from LaCartera!
