The Latest Thread – 2018 Color and Style Inspiration

I’ve gathered a collection of Violet Textile Designs, Sewing Inspiration, Mini Tutorials, Roostery Table Linens ~ 10%Sale, and BurdaStyle Biker Jacket Sew-Along Sweepstakes!

Designs Using the Pantone Color of the Year!

If you don’t know by now – Ultra Violet  is the Pantone color of 2018! I had the privilege of designing textile patterns in this color in for a family member who lost a loved one.  The hope was to make scarves for family members in remembrance of a special person who was taken from the family too soon! While I focused on the color and pattern , Pantone decided that this would be the color of the Year!  I was so happy to hear that I was ahead of the style trend for once in my lifetime!  As many of you know, purple is not my favorite color – not that I don’t like the color, but I don’t go searching for it.  I’m fond of all colors – especially orange!

So because of this request, I now have a violet collection in my Spoonflower shop that is quite lovely.  I am a lover of pastels too so I have incorporated lighter shades as well. You can click on the photo to see the complete collection. Since we are nearing spring some of these designs would not only make a great dress or other fashion ensemble, but would also look nice as a duvet cover or other linens thanks to Roostery.com.

Roostery slashed its price on kitchen and dining purchases for this weekend only! The 10% sale promotion ends on at midnight on Sunday, February 18, 2018. So I’m going to order my placemats now!

Window Style

I’m still adding finishing touches to my home as I took forward to Spring before I look forward to decorating my outdoor living space!   So I brought the sunshine indoors with a bold colorful kitchen incorporating my favorite orange color!  I’m still waiting on a few more items before I give the final reveal, but I did finish a box pleat valance that’s not too feminine using my “Orange Tile” textile design.

I added a little leather and metal rivets to give it a sleek look that matches the stainless steel appliances and industrial style. Surprise, surprise the hubby really loves it!  And I think this style would look nice on a cornice board as well.

I found this style on Pinterest and decided to combine two looks to create something that would compliment my style. I saved it to my board so you can save if for later.

Textile Design Inspiration

I’ve been working on some paisley designs for a friend and it’s coming together nicely with her color selections. I’m still testing out a couple of design patterns, but enjoying the challenge all the same.  Here’s a look at the latest design before I upload it to my Spoonflower shop and if you want to keep up with the new designs I normally post them on Instagram first.

LaCartera Kids

Here’s a cute headband I made for my grand baby that was super easy to make.  This takes 5 minutes to make and is so adorable that I plan to make more.  You only need knit fabric (5″ width x 25″ length).

  • Curve the ends
  • Fold in half lengthwise
  • Sew with matching thread leaving an opening to turn through
  • Sew the opening closed
  • Tie a knot and place on a baby!

I tried it with two different lengths, because I wasn’t sure which one would fit comfortably! The measurements above worked perfectly with a little room to grow.

Stay tuned there’s more to come from LaCartera!

      3. I like many colors, but purple has been the one for me.
I also like orange and yellow a lot, such sunny and happy colors.

  2. I have just been in your shop and you have many beautiful patterns, Sheila. I have a question for you, because I have got problems shopping in US from the tax companies in Europe. We are not allowed to buy for more than around 10 USD, before we need to declare import and pay extra taxes for this and it is very expensive. Do you know, if Spoonflower has shops in Europe too? Then I could buy in your shop, but in their European shop and avoid all the extra taxes.

Yes, Spoonflower does service Europe and there’s a shop. Once you place an order from my shop the European shop will print and ship. So you will not be charged any additional taxes or fees. Spoonflower will adjust its services based on your address. I’ve purchased fabric from my shop ($100 USD) and had it shipped to Norway and didn’t pay any additional taxes or fees.

      1. It is not you, but the receiver, who will need to pay the tax, Sheila.
I bought a book as a gift for my mother and she got a bill to pay, before she was able to receive the gift. The taxes were double up the price of the book. I will check out the possibilities.

I will send you the link from Spoonflower that explains everything to you. Spoonflower has worked everything out regarding taxes and shipping fees already.

      3. Thank you for your help, Sheila. It helped. It is because, we have so many rules inside EU, what is allowed and not.

You’re very welcome! I understand your concern and I have shipped items around the world too. You’re right about the tax rules differences for other countries and you should understand the rules. I have had items sit in customs for approximately a month too that I mailed from my home. I think Spoonflower has worked out a lot of those issues to service the international market by opening a location in Berlin and it takes me out of the shipping business too.😁

      5. It is so great, when they find out to make producing in several parts of our world. I know it, from where I sell too. Some places do the same and others not. Thank you for your help, Sheila 😀

Awwww, thank you! I like Pinterest, because there are so many creative ideas. I use it for inspiration at times, but I try to limit my time. I can spend hours if I’m not careful. 😉

Thanks Linda, I also saw an awning look that was created with a couple of tension rods that’s super cute – maybe I’ll added it to the kitchen window down the road. 🙂 And I can’t wait to design some dresses for the grandbaby too!
