This week I’ve been sewing with vinyl, created a pattern/prototype for a satin blouse, decided on the finishing touches for a shoulder bag, painted and created digital overlays for textile designs, and found energy to plan my exciting sewing and PDF Pattern project goals for the month after being sick for several days. So here’s the latest weekly thread!
Textiles, Pattern Making and Textile Designs
Here’s a follow-up on the Spoonflower textile design challenge and record number entries. I didn’t make the winner circle based on votes, but I feel victorious from the love you all have shown me!
The winning selection is simply beautiful!
Here’s a quick look at some of the top 10 winners… You can click on the photo to get a better look!
Pattern Making
I want to challenge myself this month and make myself an item for every item I make for someone else. During the month of May I have 5 projects so far!
I created a blouse pattern for my hand painted fabric design and started working on the prototype. The prototype is silk and I’m not sure if I need to add another way to put this one on yet! I’m wishing I ordered fabric with a little stretch now.
Here’s a look at the fabric I plan to use for the final look.
I’ve completed this extra-large toiletry bag and I’m finishing up this shoulder bag prototype, which needs the green light from client.
PDF Pattern Announcement:
Calling all PDF Pattern Testers – I will need 10 testers from all skill levels to test the first release of the sling bag pattern. I will make the official announcement on May 4th, so get ready!
Designing Textiles
Next week I should receive my next group of textile design swatches for approval and hope that they will be ready for sale! I can’t wait to incorporate some of these fun fabric designs into this months sewing projects. Here’s a look at some of my favorites from the marble overlay collection!
What’s coming next week:
- Wanted: PDF Pattern Testers
- New Textile Prints
- Hit or Miss –
Stay tuned there’s more to come from LaCartera!
There were many beautiful patterns in the contest Sheila and yours were among the most beautiful and you also got my vote.
I love the new purple pattern and I’m looking forward to see, how you choose to use this 😀

Thank you, Irene! I really appreciate your support too! The purple pattern may look good as a sun dress but I haven’t decided yet. 😊

You’ve been busy! Glad you’re feeling better. I think that’s going to be the perfect blouse for that fabric. Maybe a keyhole opening in the back of the neckline would work on it?

It was a struggle this week and I’m so glad the little stomach virus is over!! The blouse will have a collar on the front and back, so I may have to create a side opening or more of a boat neck opening. I’ll know before the end of the day! LOL
