Here’s a gift idea for your sports team lover. A reversible apron with their favorite team logo! I love the Dallas Cowboys and then there’s my aunt who’s a die-hard fan! so this gift is for her and you can make this hack too!
Materials:
- 1 yard NFL cotton fabric at *Joann Fabric and Craft Store (affiliate link) *Dallas Cowboys NFL Cotton Fabric
- 1 yard coordinating blue and white stripe cotton fabric * Shirtings – Stripe Blue White Cotton Fabric
- Coordinating thread
I started with an apron from my husbands weber grilling set and used it as a pattern. I folded it in half and cut out two panels for my apron.
Step #1
Cut two main panels on the fold and add an 1″ seam allowance larger than the apron.
Step #2
Cut out two pockets 11″ length x 10″ width and cut on fold, or cut two each, and sew together to make pocket using 1/2″ seam allowance. Fold the top of the pocket 1/2″, and add a decorative stitch 1/4″ to secure the fold, and the top of the pocket.
Step #3
Cut 2 binding strips 51″ length X 2″ wide from one of the main fabrics of your choice
Step #4
Sew pockets to the front panels on the right side or left side of each panel facing you. Align the bottom of the pocket 12″ from the bottom of the apron and 4 1/2″ from the side of the panel and double stitch in place. Add an extra double stitch from the top of the fabric to the decorative stitch to secure the pocket.
Step #5
Pin front side of panels together to sew close 1/2 seams leaving the top open.
Step #6
Turn the apron to the right side and fold the top opening under 1/2 inch and sew a 1/4″ seam to close.
Step#7
Fold the top of the apron over 1/2″ and top stitch 1/4″.
Step #8
Make one continuous binding strip. It’s best to press it in half and then fold each end inward 1/2″ and press to mark the folds. This will help when you add the binding strip to the apron.
Step #9
Open the binding strip and pin it onto each side of the apron starting from the very top to the end of the arm hole. (Don’t forget to leaving an opening for your head .) Sew the binding strip to the apron using an 1/2″ seam allowance Fold and pin the remaining binding that will act as the tie straps.
Step #10
Sew the binding strip 1/4 inch starting at one end and working around the top side panels to the other end of the strap.
Step #11
Press and you’re ready to cook!
Stay tuned there’s more to come from LaCartera!

Fabulous!!! Great idea starting your pattern from premise one. I have used paper patterns before and the one I used always seemed wonky and small. This is perfect

Thank you Jenny! Usually for something like this I would trace it onto pattern drafting paper, but It was only one cut and just easier to pin and trace it onto my fabric. Now you can be a little more creative. 🙂
