PDF Pattern Making

Have you ever tried to draft a pattern? What about altering an existing pattern and found that you’ve done something wrong?  Have you tried to create a PDF pattern or E-Pattern?

Pattern WorkshopMany of you know that I started the PDF pattern making process a couple of years ago and only one PDF pattern was born. I found that It was difficult to learn Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe InDesign.  So I settled for Microsoft Publisher to create the one PDF pattern, which took me nearly two weeks to put together along with the tutorial.  I even tried to pay my cousin to upload my patterns in Adobe Illustrator, make the measurement adjustments etc…  Although, he was a sweetheart and offered to help he had never seen a sewing pattern and couldn’t really understand what I needed.

After a week of research and viewing some of Lauren Dahl free video tutorials on Adobe Illustrator and her PDF pattern making process, I have jumped head first into her online Pattern Workshop course: Creating PDF Patterns: From Sketch to Sale and it is amazing for $150.

So what is so amazing you may ask?  Lauren shares her knowledge of pattern drafting, design, marketing, and Adobe Illustrator to give you active instructions on the easiest ways to navigate through Illustrator that applies to creating PDF patterns. I watched two of her videos, uploaded the trial Adobe Illustrator and felt a sense of accomplishment in two days.  I love creating patterns for my handbags and now I can upload them or draft them digitally in Illustrator in minutes…. Here’s what I did after watching two videos!

Amazing right?  This was my second attempt at playing around with the program to see what I could do.  And this only took 5 minutes. I felt like I’ve wasted so much time trying to figure this out on my own and now I’m excited that this course will also help me and others get back to sketching, designing, creating PDF patterns and sewing women & children clothes too! So I’m sharing my newfound confidence with you and my interest in learning, designing and drafting.

I paid for my class on Friday and signed up for the affiliate program too.  I’ll share my some of my homework and weekly progress with you guys as I make it through the 29 online lessons and the 50 online video tutorials.

If you are interested in creating PDF patterns as an aspiring or well-established designer you should at least look into this course and check out some of the free videos on her blog site Baste + Gather.   You can click on the photo below to read more about the Pattern Workshop here or there’s a link on my side bar too.

This sounds VERY interesting! I’ve been looking for some type of book to help me learn how to do something like this, but it looks like I need to take this class someday. Thanks so much for sharing! 🙂

You’re welcome! I has taken me some years and many frustrated moments to get me to take this class. There’s a lot that I didn’t know and still don’t know, but I’m glad everything is organized and self paced. I hope I can you will be able to see some improvement in my work by Spring ! LOL 🙂
