The Red Purse- Is it a Hit or Miss?

Hello everyone, my favorite time of the week is here… It’s Hit or Miss time!

I’ve upcycled a leather jacket I found for $20 to make this red purse… Words can not express the challenges I faced while working with this leather, but I didn’t give up!

What do you think? Is it a Hit or Miss? Fab or Drab?

I really love the braided handle reinforced with rivets, and the front pocket left in tact from the leather jacket.   The large zippered inside pocket covers the back panel.

Here’s a look at the back.

I made 3 mini straps, braided them together and sewed them at each end.

that’s what I thought it looked like. I used that method on a jeans purse I did, but haven’t tried it with leather yet. I have a closet full (I kid you not!) of leather jackets waiting to be transformed into purses, so now is as good a time as any to do it. Right? 😆

I’m in a major slump right now, creatively speaking…working on crawling out of my hole, waiting for the sunshine. 😆 But I’ll be getting to it before the next snow flies, I hope!

  5. Not my style- it is the handle and red I am not keen on, The finish is great though, I am sure a lover of red would be proud to have this

  7. Love the reuse of something so bright and in good condition. Like the design but the handle will not make the bag stable enough to carry, it will always want to turn around because it isn’t balanced with what you would put into it. The braiding is great but perhaps two handles would have made it more useable. Great idea though and love the red and the design of the bag itself. It is always the details, isn’t it?

I love your comments! I’ve only tested the purse on the shoulder although, it fits nicely the bag didn’t have the magazines in them. It may turn around??? Didn’t think of that. Gotta Luv the details! 🙂

I’m so happy to inspire creativity! I perfer to upcycle materials before I invest. Leather is so expensive, and I would hate myself if I destroyed it trying to figure out a design. 🙂

You are so brave and creative! Love that you take a jacket and repurpose it into a purse. You inspire me to go thrift shopping and try something like this. All your bags are so beautiful and fun, like the one I won. I can’t wait to take it on my ladies retreat to the Oregon Coast in two weeks. Pictures will follow:-)
